Description

H. W. Hart Manufacturing Co. made two models of their Hart Tru-Way Egg Scale. This is an example of the first model that featured a metal scale on a wooden base with attached label.

The quite faded manufacturer's label on this example indicates manufacture in Los Angeles, California. The fulcrum on this version is modified from the earlier wooden-based version made in Santa Monica, Calif.

The base holds an extra hooked counterweight that could extend the range of the scale. This Hart Egg Scale has a wooden base that has been repainted with a decorative stripe.

The second model was all metal and was made only after the company moved to Los Angeles, Calif. The fulcrum design shown in this example carried over to the later all-metal scale. It appears that Hart merged or was acquired by Reliable Manufacturing Co. also of Los Angeles.
