Pennsylvania Scale  Fan dial

Description

This fan-dial scale was made for both metric and United States-standard weighing, with a rather unusual weight chart. The chart has graduations to 500 grams on the top and 1.1 pounds on the bottom.

The weight chart further divides the grams into nine more rows, making it quite easy for the user to read an accurate weight to the nearest gram. For example, directly below 200 grams is “1”—or 201 grams; the next row down is “2” for 202 grams, and so on. The bottom row shows “9” (209 grams); then, look all the way to the top for 210 and come down the rows for 211, 212, et cetera.

The sliding-poise beam can add 4,500 grams or 10 lb (pounds), and it has poise-holding notches every 500 gm and 1 lb increments, depending on the weight system. The total capacity is 5,000 grams or 11.1 pounds.

Since there are no prices on the indicator arm or the chart, this scale was made for weighing but not for price computing.
