Description

This Stimpson Computing Scale Co. horizontal barrel (or “cylinder”) platform scale, made in Detroit, achieved the highest degree of ornamental cast metalwork of all known price computing scales. The ornate casting is even on the metal bracket that supports the glass platform. This scale has a 24-pound (11 kg) capacity.

It is a perfect example of a hanging barrel scale being fitted to a platform. Look at the top metal piece: There is a hole for hanging. Look at how the barrel mechanism is attached to the platform weighing system: It is a simple, straight rod. In addition, we have a Stimpson horizontal hanging barrel scale in the collection. Although it is not quite as fancy, the top and bottom metal pieces are identical. (CLICK HERE)

Detroit, Michigan, was the fourth location for the Stimpson Computing Scale Company, existing from 1902–1911. However, this type of scale was only popular in the middle of those years.
